Our ethos
Since we started our own web design company, we've had a few golden rules that we've tried to work to, as far as what we hope our customers can expect from us.
These have been formed by not only what we consider to be good customer service in general, but also by seeing or hearing about friends and aquaintences experience of what we think is bad customer service in our industry.
We don't hide behind technical mumbo jumbo.
Some web design companies sites are full of lists of different coding technologies and software that they use.
That is fine if someone wants a specific job doing, and wants to know if you have the skills to implement it. My technical skill-set is on my CV and thats where it stays.
Most people don't care too much about how you get the job done, they are just interested in having a good usuable web page, that looks good and is easy to maintain. You are running a business, so are we, let's just talk like normal people, and discuss what we can do for your business on the web.
If during the course of building a site for you, I need to make you aware that going down a certain road technically, will have consequences or a knock on effect, then I'll tell you, and explain it to you in plain english. So, unless you ask me to, I'm not going to bore you with technical details.
A job will be ready on time.
This is possibly a reaction to living in Spain, and the whole 'Maņana' thing. I'm pretty organised, and like to get stuff done. I also don't like letting people down.
I will set realistic timescales to get a job done, and unless I have been delayed by waiting for you to send stuff to me, like photographs, graphics, logos, logins or content, then it will be finished on time, even if I have to stay up half the night to get it done.
We're not going to disappear once we've done the job.
Too many times, I've heard about web design companys doing a job, and then just not being contactable when people want content changing, domains renewing, sites expanding. Particularly in Spain.
We live here in Spain. Our address is on the front of the site, and thats our home address. We are trying to build up our business here in Spain, and you don't do that by burning people and moving on, you do it by good word of mouth.
We're looking long term.
We don't want to do one job for you, take your money and move on, we want you as our clients long term. Whether you come on board as a new web design, or just us doing a bit of content management for you, we want you to feel that we are the first place you would come back to for anything web design and marketing based. That also means that we're equally picky about who we take on as clients, we want people who we think we can work with long term.
We want to build a good reputation, and we want to still be doing this in 20 years time. We hope that some of you will still be there with us as clients.
We're not expensive.
I've heard some horrific prices quoted for what people have paid for web sites.
I will quote you for a whole job, and not by the hour for design work, so you know what you're paying for. That way if it takes me longer to do than I expected then thats my problem. However, obviously if you change the requirements drastically during the building of the site, then I would reserve the right to revise the quote.
Conversely, on the marketing side, we will charge by the hour, as that is one hour purely spent on you and your business. A lot of marketing companies charge a monthly retainer fee, and I don't think that it really motivates them to get results on their clients behalf.
We want to do the best job possible.
Some people will just do what you ask them to. The bare minimum, without putting any additional thought, care or initiative into what they are doing. Even if they know that what you are asking them to do won't really work, or won't be the most effective method.
We work for you, so obviously we will design your web site as you want it, but we will offer suggestions, options and possible improvements, when we think it's appropriate. If we think that something is wrong, we'll say so. You don't have to listen to us, and we won't mind that, but we will always try to help you get the most for your money.
