Frequently Asked Questions - domains/hosting
I already have some webspace, can you build my site on that?
Yes we can. We also offer inexpensive web hosting, and always give a years free web hosting with any new design job if the client doesn't already have some web space, but you are welcome to use your own web space if you have some.
The only thing to be careful with web space is that free webspace, like the kind given away with a wanadoo, or telefonica account, is usually free for a reason.
The servers that your site would be hosted on, are generally not very fast, and will probably have no back up recovery in the event of failure. They can also have strict limits on the amount of traffic put through them, so if your site becomes popular or gets used a lot, there is a danger that if you go over your bandwidth limit you might get cut off until the following month.
Also, professional servers have a host of features and functions that come bundled with them, that you just wouldn't get on free web space.
If you have some web space that you want to use, you must also know the login name and password for it, otherwise we can't get into it to build your site.
We can help advise if we feel that your web space is going to cause you any problems for the purpose you want to use it for.
I've already bought my domain name, can you build me a site to go with it?
No problem. You've already taken the first important step towards setting up a website, by purchasing a domain name for your business.
Domain names can be pointed at any webspace to tell a web browser where to look for a site. As long as you have the login name and password for your domain names control panel, then we can change it to point at your new site.
The domain name login and password would probably have been given to you when you registered the domain, and it's very important to hang on to this information.
We can also purchase and register domain names for you, and handle re-registering them on an ongoing basis.
I want domain name www.example.com. Why can't I have it?
There are now literally billions of web sites in the world, and thousands more being added on a daily basis. That means that most real words have already been taken as domain names. Domain names are usually renewed on a yearly or bi-annual basis, and sometimes domain names that are no longer needed drop back into circulation for someone else to use, but a lot get re-registered.
It depends on how unique your domain name is, as to how likely it is to have already gone. If your first choice of domain name has gone, then we can help you find another similar one to suit, and offer advice on the best one to choose.
You may find that the domain name you want is available as a .com, but a company that offers a similar service to yours has the same domain name but as a .es or .net. You don't want customers getting confused and going to a rivals site.
We are here to help find the right domain for your company that positions your customers to easily find your site and find out about your business.
